The return? 🪴
There is a lot I need to figure out but more so I think I need to return. I can’t really remember what I was working on the last time I was here but I do see about 4-5 different iterations of trying to get the infrastructure set up for MBC.
It’s cool to think that it’ll be 3 years since I had the idea. I went through being intimidated and then overly perfectionistic with it and now I would like to return and just let this be the unfiltered space for my mind, like I originally intended. A place to play with thoughts and ideas.
I think a good portion of returning can come from pruning. I’ve been really motivated to declutter and get rid of what no longer serves me.
Here’s what I’m learning as an aspiring but horribly not minimalist. You see, I’m the kind of person who goes to visit NYC for a day trip and my friends act shocked because I brought less bags than they thought I would. Meaning they congratulate me on only bringing 2 bags instead of the 4 they thought I would have. For a day trip! (Mind you, sometimes I hide bags within bags..)
I recently went through a good chunk of our belongings after similar on and off mindset for decluttering. I finally had the will to stop being overly perfectionistic to figure out how to get rid of stuff appropriately, e-waste, textiles etc. and just did it! The town did make it easy by having a one stop shop but all I needed to do was look it up rather than over complicating things.
The three different parallels to returning to MBC and decluttering are that
- Decluttering allows me to focus on what matters
- The perfectionistic, overcomplicated attitude I had towards decluttering is the same as MBC
- The life I think I will have
Three: s kind of a product of my subtle shopping addiction? I like the idea of how stuff could potentially bring me closer to the life I want to live, bring me closer to writing articles that resonate, and FINALLY have the home office set up of my dreams.
One: But the more and more I try to add, the more bells and whistles and tasks and things I add into my life, the less and less I actually want to do it or the more that I spend with overhead. It boils down to understanding the kind of life I want to live and I have been struck by the thought that the stuff I have prevents me from doing the things that matter.
So I think to return in this context and phase of my life will be a ritual of pruning away what adds clutter, mess, sucks up mental energy, and pulls me away from the ability to cherish this idea that I have.
TL;DR: KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID ;)
